  2. QUESTION:
Why are people so fired up to vote in GOP majority whose promise to shut down the Obama?
agenda but are less clear about their road map to governing? Is the agenda to repeal health-care reform, repeal financial reform, so Wall Street scammers and predatory lenders can return to doing everything they did before they wrecked the economy, and maintain corporate -- welfare subsidies that move jobs overseas; reduce spending by slashing education funding; and ending all clean-energy projects aimed at curbing our dependence on Mideast oil?

What will they do different and have they told anyone yet?

    • ANSWER:
maybe its the current policy of viewing americans as a source of revenue. the government is becoming the major cost to taxpayers.thats not service thats just administrative cost.this 787 billion just wasted to protect union pensions is a good example. we could have 20 million dollars cash for every american...or we could have union pensions solvent for 10 years. these people are draining america of cash and credit already in debt for 10 years for 2 years of legislation. at this rate 2 more years of unchecked fraud and corruption america will be in debt for 40 years. think of it as progress. to cause debt is less productive than doing nothing.
wall street scams effect only the people that willingly allow their money to be used in trades.
predatory lenders only effect the people who willingly ask for loans.
corporate taxes and regulations are what causes business to leave america.(see Reaganomics)
the cost and indoctrination policies of public education need to be addressed.(my kids went to private school)
it was the liberals that caused our dependence on mideast oil.
we have plenty and were doing well until the environmentalist liberals put american oil off limits to drilling. alaska, and the destin dome would take america into the next century.

  3. QUESTION:
How to send money from Canada to Indonesia immediately?
I'm staying at a hotel in Jakarta and I need my parents to send me money right away, before tomorrow. What would be the most appropriate method, if any? I don't have my bank's debit card on me, and I don't have a credit card either... I can access my bank account online, and the money will be there right after it's sent -- but the problem is withdrawing that money, here, in Indonesian currency. I know there are dozens of ways to transfer money electronically, but time is of the essence here. I need it by tomorrow, so wire transfers won't work(and often charge a rather large, set fee for the small amount I need transferred).
@SteveN Okay I'll have it sent to my bank account then. After that I can just visit one of those banks you listed and transfer/convert my CAD dollars into Rupiah? The part I'm most worried about is that I don't have a debit card on my for my bank(well, Envision Credit Union), I only have my account number and transit code to access my account online. Will that be enough to get Rupiah at one of those banks here??

    Thanks!!
I lost my visa and was forced to cancel the card. I've also lost my glasses, a pair of shoes(old), and my toiletries in the same bag. Well, they were all either lost or stolen... But yeah, Jakarta is a dangerous place lol.

    • ANSWER:
Whether your parents put money in your account and you take it out, or they send you money using something like Western Union, you are pretty much in the same boat. You either have to take it out at some local bank in Jakarta and pay the conversion fee, or you get it from a wire transfer, which has conversion fees along with other banking or service fees.

The EASIEST and QUICKEST way is almost always going to be taking money out of your account. There are several foreign exchange banks in Indonesia that should be able to convert your funds from $CAD to rupiahs.

I would check out Royal Bank of Scotland, Citibank, JP Morgan Chase, or Bank of America which all have branches in Indonesia. That is, if you don't trust the local banks like BBA, BII, ICB, or UOB.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised anyone would travel internationally without at least having access to a credit card or debit card with you for emergencies.

EDIT: That makes more sense. Losing you wallet or having your cards stolen while on vacation can really spoil the fun and make for a stressful time. What you should do is explain what you just said to me to the bank. If they do not believe you and will not accept the account number (even after showing them a statement from online that you can print out) then my advice would be do one of two things:

      1) Arrange for your parents to call your credit union on your behalf (or you can call your parents collect and then ask them to create a conference call to your bank) and explain the situation. See if they have any recommendations on how to get a replacement card quickly or how to get funds without your card.

      2) Go see the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta (address below) and explain the situation. See if they have any way to advance you funds until you get a replacement card, or can make arrangements like giving you a letter to present to the local bank so you can access your funds.

By the way, if your mom or dad have a credit card, they should be able to at least pay your hotel bill by guaranteeing the room using their card. They might have to get authorization from Visa or Mastercard but it should work. My company reserved me a room and guaranteed the payment using their corporate card when I travelled in the past and was still only 20.

  4. QUESTION:
How can I get blue prints on an old house I don't own?
There is a house in a rather bad neighborhood in my city. When I searched the address on the property appraisers site, I found that it is owned by GTE Federal Credit union who has a large corporate building on an adjacent block. According to records it was built in 1926 and now just sit boarded up and wasting away.

Unfortunately, as a college student I'm in no position to attempt to purchase and move the house and I can find no historical records about its ownership to recommend it for preservation with. However, but I am over the moon with the period deco brick work and bungalow architecture.

    A) would a general contractor be able to make blueprints from an existing structure on an hourly rate of some sort?

    B) Is it possible to approach the credit union to allow a contractor to enter the premises and make blue prints and photos so that in a decade or so when I'm ready to build my own house, the home could be "copied" in a different location?

    • ANSWER:
Generally, contractors don't make blueprints, you will want to go to an architect or draftsman. Your contractor may be able to recommend one. Lenders are not in the business of allowing non-buyers into properties just to look around, so they probably won't cooperate with you there. And, when you are ready to build, you will have a long list of things you will desire in a home that would not be included in any home built in 1926. If you like the architecture, then take photos of the house, but know that the floor plan of the house you like would be something that would need to be changed anyway for today's lifestyle and building codes. Google "bungalow home plans", you can spend hours looking them over.

  6. QUESTION:
I am looking for legit websites to buy discounted Disney tickets.?
Also, any other suggestions on low budget thongs to do on Orlando. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
There are VERY few legitimate ticket discounts offered, and they would be on 3+ day tickets. 1 and 2 day tickets are NOT discounted.

      These include:
      -Military/Civil Service
      -Florida Resident
      -Corporate/Union discounts (if available)

Occasionally, you may find some discounting at AAA or Undercover Tourist, but typically, these discounts do not amount to more than a few dollars off.

ONLY BUY TICKETS FROM A LEGITIMATE, DISNEY-AUTHORIZED RESELLER! Places like CostCo, AAA, reputable Disney-authorized travel agencies. You will get burned if you don't.

How to tell if an online retailer is Disney authorized:
-"Disney" cannot be used in the URL/Domain name. If the web address contains Disney (and it isn't Disney's official website), don't buy the tickets there.
      - Legitimate brokers cannot sell discounted 1-day tickets. If you see discounted 1-day tickets, it's a scam site.
-If they require you to pay via Western Union or similar service, then it is a gigantic red flag. If you send that money via Western Union, your money is gone. You will not get it back. ALWAYS pay with Credit Card (NOT a debit card) as you can always have the charge reversed if you're scammed.

DO NOT buy tickets from ticket booths anywhere offering "partially used passes" or that offer tickets at extreme discounts. If the deal sounds too good to be true, most likely, it is a scam.

Disney tickets are non-transferable. Anything labelled "Days Left" or "Partial Tickets" cannot be used by anyone other than the original ticket holder. A biometric finger scan is attached to the tickets when they are first used. At that point, the tickets cannot be used by anybody other than the original user. Even if you COULD use the tickets, there's no way to verify whether the tickets have any days left until you're at the gate. It is also illegal in the state of Florida to sell used tickets.

So, whether you buy them at seedy booths along I-Drive, or on eBay or Craigslist, you might as well just take a fistful of cash and throw it out of your car as you drive down the street, since that is about what you'd be doing. Throwing money away.

Again... Don't buy anything from eBay or Craigslist. There is literally NO WAY to verify that those tickets are valid. They might sell them with a "certificate of Authenticity" but Disney offers no such thing. I can go take a dump in a bag and staple a "Certificate of Authenticity" to it and it will be equally authentic as those tickets are. (Which means "not".) What is pictured also might not be the item that you receive. By the time you receive your worthless items, the account could be gone. They could also be legit tickets... that were shoplifted from a Disney store. In that case, they won't be activated, and are still worthless.

Any time you see an exceptional deal, like say a FREE or a ticket... It is a scam. You might be offered a deal in exchange for viewing a Timeshare Presentation... in which case you'll spend two or three (or more) hours of your life and vacation spent viewing a presentation where they'll hound you into buying a timeshare. Don't bother. It's a waste of time and money.

If you see specific websites that aren't a timeshare giving you a crazy deal, don't bother. It's a scam.

You may find legit discounts from the Military, if you're a Florida resident, through UndercoverTourist, AAA (but rarely), or perhaps through your Corporate employer. But, these are rare.

  7. QUESTION:
What were the ten recommendations given by Obama to improve the economy, education, and immigration in the US?
I kind of missed them, can anyone expain?

    • ANSWER:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110126/ap_on_re_us/us_state_of_union_text_5 Here is the full text of the speech, if you can read.

Meanwhile, since you probably won't want to be confronted by the facts, I'll do it for you, although I'm not sure I'll do all ten:
Thanks to the tax cuts we passed, Americans' paychecks are a little bigger today. Every business can write off the full cost of new investments that they make this year. And these steps, taken by Democrats and Republicans, will grow the economy and add to the more than 1 million private sector jobs created last year.

We know what it takes to compete for the jobs and industries of our time. We need to out-innovate, out-educate and out-build the rest of the world.

The first step in winning the future is encouraging American innovation. ...We'll invest in biomedical research, information technology and especially clean energy technology an investment that will strengthen our security, protect our planet and create countless new jobs for our people...And to help pay for it, I'm asking Congress to eliminate the billions in taxpayer dollars we currently give to oil companies.

But if we want to win the future if we want innovation to produce jobs in America and not overseas then we also have to win the race to educate our kids...We need to teach our kids that it's not just the winner of the Super Bowl who deserves to be celebrated, but the winner of the science fair...To all 50 states, we said, "If you show us the most innovative plans to improve teacher quality and student achievement, we'll show you the money." ...For less than 1 percent of what we spend on education each year, it has led over 40 states to raise their standards for teaching and learning...In South Korea, teachers are known as "nation builders." Here in America, it's time we treated the people who educate our children with the same level of respect...We want to reward good teachers and stop making excuses for bad ones...That's why we've ended the unwarranted taxpayer subsidies that went to banks and used the savings to make college affordable for millions of students. And this year, I ask Congress to go further and make permanent our tuition tax credit worth ,000 for four years of college. It's the right thing to do...

Now, I strongly believe that we should take on, once and for all, the issue of illegal immigration. And I am prepared to work with Republicans and Democrats to protect our borders, enforce our laws and address the millions of undocumented workers who are now living in the shadows.

To attract new businesses to our shores, we need the fastest, most reliable ways to move people, goods, and information from high-speed rail to high-speed Internet...We'll put more Americans to work repairing crumbling roads and bridges. We'll make sure this is fully paid for, attract private investment and pick projects based (on) what's best for the economy, not politicians...Within the next five years, we'll make it possible for businesses to deploy the next generation of high-speed wireless coverage to 98 percent of all Americans...

I'm asking Democrats and Republicans to simplify the (tax) system. Get rid of the loopholes. Level the playing field. And use the savings to lower the corporate tax rate for the first time in 25 years without adding to our deficit. It can be done.

To help businesses sell more products abroad, we set a goal of doubling our exports by 2014 because the more we export, the more jobs we create here at home...Recently, we signed agreements with India and China that will support more than 250,000 jobs here in the United States. And last month, we finalized a trade agreement with South Korea that will support at least 70,000 American jobs...

You can read the rest yourself. And anyone who cannot explain them to you didn't listen.

  10. QUESTION:
The Global Economic Meltdown, The Hypocrisy of the West?
The world economy is falling apart in the process revealing the hypocrisy and the fallacy of the West's economic philosophy, unregulated Capitalism.

Are you as confused or worried as many people around the world are about this absurdity? Isn t it ironic that in this new age globalization when corporate profits around the world, especially in the US, are at an all time high, a time when physical and intellectual labor are cheaper than dirt, and when information you need to make the most intelligent and savvy business decisions is so readily available practically at the tip of your fingers that we have an economic calamity of this magnitude?

So what is the cause of this disaster? Is it one of 2 things - greed or incompetence? Or a third possibility, both. When you put them both together, unadulterated greed and unmitigated unprecedented incompetence, you get this type of catastrophe.

What is interesting about this is that intellectuals of the West have been contemptuously and arrogantly pontificating how there was little hope for what they call the third world because of the rampant corruption and greed that is so wide spread in the systems. Who says the politicians and political system are corrupt and rigged in the so called third world countries only?

Despite the incessant flow of propaganda to the rest of the world by the West, we are learning more and more everyday that politics in the US is really not that different from the rest of the world including Africa, Asia and S America where corruption and cronyism are rampant. It is just that the US, and for the most part Europe, have a sophisticated way running their corrupt system and are able to sell their propaganda in a more palatable way to the masses.

Perhaps you could furnish us with some examples where, you ludicrously and hilariously assert, physical and intellectual labour are cheaper than dirt??? What planet are you living on, out of interest?

Oh, by the way, you may find this article helpful:

It is now commonplace and politically correct to blame what is referred to as the excesses of capitalism for the economic problems we face, and especially for the Wall Street fraud that dominates the business news. Politicians are having a field day with demagoguing the issue while, of course, failing to address the fraud and deceit found in the budgetary shenanigans of the federal government for which they are directly responsible. Instead, it gives the Keynesian crowd that runs the show a chance to attack free markets and ignore the issue of sound money.

So once again we hear the chant: "Capitalism has failed; we need more government controls over the entire financial market." No one asks why the billions that have been spent and thousands of pages of regulations that have been written since the last major attack on capitalism in the 1930s didn't prevent the fraud and deception of Enron, WorldCom, and Global Crossings. That failure surely couldn't have come from a dearth of regulations.

What is distinctively absent is any mention that all financial bubbles are saturated with excesses in hype, speculation, debt, greed, fraud, gross errors in investment judgment, carelessness on the part of analysts and investors, huge paper profits, conviction that a new era economy has arrived and, above all else, pie-in-the-sky expectations.

When the bubble is inflating, there are no complaints. When it bursts, the blame game begins. This is especially true in the age of victimization, and is done on a grand scale. It quickly becomes a philosophic, partisan, class, generational, and even a racial issue. While avoiding the real cause, all the finger pointing makes it difficult to resolve the crisis and further undermines the principles upon which freedom and prosperity rest.

Nixon was right once when he declared "We're all Keynesians now." All of Washington is in sync in declaring that too much capitalism has brought us to where we are today. The only decision now before the central planners in Washington is whose special interests will continue to benefit from the coming pretense at reform. The various special interests will be lobbying heavily like the Wall Street investors, the corporations, the military-industrial complex, the banks, the workers, the unions, the farmers, the politicians, and everybody else.

"The only decision now before the central planners in Washington is whose special interests will continue to benefit from the coming pretense at reform." But what is not discussed is the actual cause and perpetration of the excesses now unraveling at a frantic pace. This same response occurred in the 1930s in the United States as our policy makers responded to the very similar excesses that developed and collapsed in 1929. Because of the failure to understand the problem then, the depression was prolonged. These mistakes allowed our current problems to develop to a much greater degree. Consider the failure to come to grips with the cause of the 1980s bubble, as Japan's economy continues to linger at no-growth and recession level, with their stock market at approximately one-fourth of its peak 13 years ago. If we're not careful and so far we've not been we will make the same errors that will prevent the correction needed before economic growth can be resumed.

In the 1930s, it was quite popular to condemn the greed of capitalism, the gold standard, lack of regulation, and a lack government insurance on bank deposits for the disaster. Businessmen became the scapegoat. Changes were made as a result, and the welfare/warfare state was institutionalized. Easy credit became the holy grail of monetary policy, especially under Alan Greenspan, "the ultimate Maestro." Today, despite the presumed protection from these government programs built into the system, we find ourselves in a bigger mess than ever before. The bubble is bigger, the boom lasted longer, and the gold price has been deliberately undermined as an economic signal. Monetary inflation continues at a rate never seen before in a frantic effort to prop up stock prices and continue the housing bubble, while avoiding the consequences that inevitably come from easy credit. This is all done because we are unwilling to acknowledge that current policy is only setting the stage for a huge drop in the value of the dollar. Everyone fears it, but no one wants to deal with it.

Ignorance, as well as disapproval for the natural restraints placed on market excesses that capitalism and sound markets impose, cause our present leaders to reject capitalism and blame it for all the problems we face. If this fallacy is not corrected and capitalism is even further undermined, the prosperity that the free market generates will be destroyed.

Corruption and fraud in the accounting practices of many companies are coming to light. There are those who would have us believe this is an integral part of free-market capitalism. If we did have free-market capitalism, there would be no guarantees that some fraud wouldn't occur. When it did, it would then be dealt with by local law-enforcement authority and not by the politicians in Congress, who had their chance to "prevent" such problems but chose instead to politicize the issue, while using the opportunity to promote more useless Keynesian regulations.

Capitalism should not be condemned, since we haven't had capitalism. A system of capitalism presumes sound money, not fiat money manipulated by a central bank. Capitalism cherishes voluntary contracts and interest rates that are determined by savings, not credit creation by a central bank. It's not capitalism when the system is plagued with incomprehensible rules regarding mergers, acquisitions, and stock sales, along with wage controls, price controls, protectionism, corporate subsidies, international management of trade, complex and punishing corporate taxes, privileged government contracts to the military-industrial complex, and a foreign policy controlled by corporate interests and overseas investments. Add to this centralized federal mismanagement of farming, education, medicine, insurance, banking and welfare. This is not capitalism!

To condemn free-market capitalism because of anything going on today makes no sense. There is no evidence that capitalism exists today. We are deeply involved in an interventionist-planned economy that allows major benefits to accrue to the politically connected of both political parties. One may condemn the fraud and the current system, but it must be called by its proper names Keynesian inflationism, interventionism, and corporatism.

What is not discussed is that the current crop of bankruptcies reveals that the blatant distortions and lies emanating from years of speculative orgy were predictable.

First, Congress should be investigating the federal government's fraud and deception in accounting, especially in reporting future obligations such as Social Security, and how the monetary system destroys wealth. Those problems are bigger than anything in the corporate world and are the responsibility of Congress. Besides, it's the standard set by the government and the monetary system it operates that are major contributing causes to all that's wrong on Wall Street today. Where fraud does exist, it's a state rather than a federal matter, and state authorities can enforce these laws without any help from Congress.

Second, we do know why financial bubbles occur, and we know from history that they are routinely associated with speculation, excessive debt, wild promises, greed, lying, and cheating. These problems were described by quite a few observers as the problems were developing throughout the 1990s, but the warnings were ignored for one reason. Everybody was making a killing and no one cared, and those who were reminded of history were reassured by the Fed chairman that "this time" a new economic era had arrived and not to worry. Productivity increases, it was said, could explain it all.

But now we know that's just not so. Speculative bubbles and all that we've been witnessing are a consequence of huge amounts of easy credit, created out of thin air by the Federal Reserve. We've had essentially no savings, which is one of the most significant driving forces in capitalism. The illusion created by low interest rates perpetuates the bubble and all the bad stuff that goes along with it. And that's not a fault of capitalism. We are dealing with a system of inflationism and interventionism that always produces a bubble economy that must end badly.

So far the assessment made by the administration, Congress, and the Fed bodes badly for our economic future. All they offer is more of the same, which can't possibly help. All it will do is drive us closer to national bankruptcy, a sharply lower dollar, and a lower standard of living for most Americans, as well as less freedom for everyone.

This is a bad scenario that need not happen. But preserving our system is impossible if the critics are allowed to blame capitalism and sound monetary policy is rejected. More spending, more debt, more easy credit, more distortion of interest rates, more regulations on everything, and more foreign meddling will soon force us into the very uncomfortable position of deciding the fate of our entire political system.

"To condemn free-market capitalism because of anything going on today makes no sense."If we were to choose freedom and capitalism, we would restore our dollar to a commodity or a gold standard. Federal spending woul

  14. QUESTION:
Thoughts on a post-war economic picture, historically considering the recession we fell into post Vietnam?
In leu of the current U.S. economic situation, a slowing housing market, fuel and food cost increases, rising consumer credit debt, skyrocketing health care costs impacting corporate/consumer bottomlines, any thoughts on how the end of the war in Iraq could potentially effect the overall economy considering the incredible price tag we've incurred from it?

Thinking back to the recession experienced after Vietnam here in the U.S., and even the bancrupcy of the former Soviet Union after their war with Afghanistan, when the war bills have to be paid for Iraq, how could this weaken the U.S. economy?

    • ANSWER:
This is a complex question, one that you may not find a satisfactory answer to here.

Let me first address the points of the economy you bring up. A slowing housing market is not terrible - it is inevitable, and it will not crash suddenly because houses have intrinsic value. The slowing market WOULD present a larger problem if foreclosures were expected to rise precipitously, and that does not seem to be the case (especially considering that variable-rate borrowers may find some relief in a neutral or easing monetary policy from the Fed).

The increases in the cost of food and fuel are troubling, although in the next five to ten years these should be somewhat mitigated by consumer responses, ie shifting consumption patterns to products and usages that are less expensive. However, immediately following the termination of the war in Iraq, these may prove to be troubling because instability in the region tends to drive up futures prices because of the skittishness of commodity speculators.

Health care costs will be the most troubling aspect of the economy for many years to come, not the least impact will be felt on the troops and their families. Within the next few months, more reports about the lack of adequate care and rehabilitation for injured soldiers will be coming out. These are men and women who served admirably and will be left in limbo for quite some time, unable to work but unable to find disability due to bureaucratic tie-ups and an unwillingness of the Pentagon to pay the true cost of the war.

We will likely see a great push from businesses towards a universal health care system so as to reduce the health care burden on private companies and place it on the taxpayers. Whether this is a good idea, or even whether it will work, depends upon the HOWs of the plan. Such a plan may substantially improve our competitiveness internationally, though.

It is likely there will be something of a recession following the end of the war, simply because expenditures will shift away from defense and military. The only way to prevent such a recession (which, technically, occurs whenever year-over-year output falls two consecutive quarters) is to switch the defense expenditures into some other area, and ironically a universal health care system would take care of this.

This is not so much a weakness as a cycle. It's not apt to relate the experience of the former USSR to the present-day US because the USSR had so much weakness inherent to it. Consider the drastic inefficiencies wrought by socialistic central planning (ie, build cities in the middle of nowhere to produce one component of a product that must be shipped 1,100 miles to be of any use) and blatant cronyism and corruption, and contrast these with American capitalism which always chases a higher bottom line through greater efficiencies. This means that costs are always chased lower as much as possible, which lends some resiliency to the economy even in difficult periods.

    • ANSWER:
It is a scam! There is no online Power Ball Lottery, Overseas Lottery International, YAHOO & MSN Lotteries, Yahoo online dept., UK (United Kingdom) Lottery, Netherlands Lottery, British Lottery, Thunderball Online Lottery in the UK, Australian Lottery, Spanish Lottery, Yahoo Lottery Microsoft Lottery (emmulating from the UK or anywhere else) or any other form of lottery you can win without buying a ticket. While some people might only copy and paste such email to their answer with a brief take on it, I will go into detail because I'm tired of this trash, as several of my friends have lost their a$$es to this scam. This is about as far away from legitimate as anything can get, whether it be a contest, promotion, or whatever.

There exists a certain form of immoral degenerate that trolls the internet searching for suckers who believe that they have gotten very lucky and won a lottery which they have never entered. They will probably entice you to send an advance fee to claim your non-existant winnings and if you do send this money, you can kiss it goodbye. The money will likely be en-route to Nigeria, a cesspool of fraud that has been the center of these types of fraud over the last few decades.

The best thing to do is to delete such emails immediately and to never reply to them. If you even reply, you risk having your email inbox flooded. If you call these people, expect to be harrassed over the phone at all hours of the night! In some cases, people who travel to claim their winnings in Nigeria are taken hostage, and in worse-case scenarios are killed when whoever is paying ransom payments exhausts their money supply. If anything online sounds to good to be true it always is buddy.

By the way, I have kind of become an anti-scam activists due to the fact that I have many friends who have had their identities and life savings stolen from them via these methods.

This is simply advance fee fraud (a prevalent type of fraud which continously asks for money to cover unforseen expenses) and is intended to drain your bank account, promising money that simply does not exist. Hopefully, this answers your question.

If you have any more questions, do a yahoo search on lottery scams, nigeria 419 scams, internet fraud, or advance fee fraud. You can also read more about this at www.secretservice.gov and www.419eater.com!

If you have lost money you should report it to the U.S. Secret Service at www.secretservice.gov

Now you know the basics of Advance Fee Fraud, a multi-million dollar industry that costs honest people their life savings everyday. Be happy you weren't duped by this scam!

I hope this is helpful, because I could sure use a best answer! I would appreciate it!

  16. QUESTION:
My pocket book was stolen, along with ALL my I.D.?
I've already cancelled my credit cards. Can he or she use my birth certificate and SS to get a drivers license under my name even tho I already have one? Could the DMV in PA help me out with this, with a phone call? Or could they use my DL for them selves???

    • ANSWER:
Yes plus they can open new credit cards in your name. They can change all sorts of things to their benefit, even change the address on your driver's license so it comes to them. You should also notify the three credit agencies that your info has been stolen so anyone checking with them will find out. You need to have a police report of the incident too. I have an article somewhere that will give you ideas. . .Here it is. . .

      Subject: Stolen ID

      ATTORNEY'S ADVICE - NO CHARGE

Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his advice! A corporate Attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company.

      1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put "PHOTO ID REQUIRED."

      2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card Accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

      3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home Phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have It printed, anyone can get it.

      4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to Call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a Photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a Name, address, Social Security number, credit cards.

Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my Wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(S) ordered an Expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had A credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number From DMV to change my driving record information online, and more. But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

      5. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card Numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

      6. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit Providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an Investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of all: (I never even thought to do this.)

      7. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations Immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over The Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your Credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by Phone to authorize new credit.

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the Credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, etc., has been stolen:

      1.) Equifax: 800-525-6285

      2.) Experian (formerly TRW) : 888-397-3742

      3.) Trans Union: 800-680-7289

      4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line):800-269- 0271

      Hope this helps. . .

  17. QUESTION:
Is this Bain mess all just a plan by Herman Cain so he can swoop in at the convention & steal the nomination?

    • ANSWER:
What mess? I really fail to understand this whole thing. Neither the board of directors nor the president of a company is under any obligation whatsoever to keep the company workforce in the US. It is not their job to "put America first".

Their primary obligation and the job they are contracted to do is to make profits for the shareholders. The shareholders are you and me - anyone who has a 401-K, a mutual fund, or an individual stock portfolio, no matter how small or large. We invest in these companies because we want a better rate of return than we can get at the banks, better growth than the corrupt and mismanaged Social Security system can offer us - and we count on the CEO, the CFO, and the board of directors to make whatever decisions will achieve that end within the laws of the United States. Period.

If you don't like outsourcing - if you don't think American companies should do it - you should be going after the GOVERNMENT to make the US a more attractive place to do business. They can start by lowering the US Corporate tax rate, and to stop fanning the flames of anger and hatred for corporations. They can start by paying a little more heed to the needs of our manufacturing base, rather than bowing to the wants of the union pension holders in exchange for votes. They can start by taking their greedy little political paws off the US Currency, stopping the fiat mis-management policies of "Quantitative Easing" that devalues the dollar in the global market, lowers our debt rating, and causes the US Dollar to be backed by only the false promises of politicians.

The heads of these companies make decisions that are based on the bottom line. If they see that they can save large chunks of operating cash by operating overseas, and this reduction in operating cost will enable them to offer their products at a lower cost to Americans and on a global market, they will do it.

I don't understand why anyone WOULDN'T outsource. Our banks have been failing for 20 years - our major banks have required bailouts because they were forced by a politically motivated government to make substandard loans that were guaranteed by a corrupt agency run by corrupt politicians - all for political gain. Our credit rating is teetering on another downgrade, because the Fed keeps playing around with artificially adjusting interest rates and flooding the market with un-backed currency. We have virtually no manufacturing base - our major car companies all needed bailouts and government intervention because they can't afford the pensions given to their union members, and the focus has shifted from making inexpensive, efficient and quality automobiles to making sure no one has to lose their defined benefit pension plan.

Corporate taxes in this country are as high or higher than anywhere else in the world; we now have a sweeping 2,000 + page healthcare law that NO ONE UNDERSTANDS; corporations are sitting on capital just waiting to see what happens in the next 24 months before making any major hiring or expansion decisions.

As for Romney - consider this. If I were the head of a company that made safes, I would probably want to hire the best safe-cracker I could find to work for me. If I were the head of an IT department that needed strong firewalls and tight security, I'd hire the best hacker I could find.

Romney has worked (LEGALLY) in the private sector, making profits for businesses. He, of all people, knows the government taxes and regulations that impede profitability. He, of all people, knows the laws and regulations that allow people to invest and do business overseas. He is intimately familiar with the reasons for this exodus.

As President - he would be UNIQUELY qualified to address these "dis-incentives" and reverse them; he is UNIQUELY qualified to understand what laws corporations are following, what taxes they are trying to avoid, what regulations are keeping them from being profitable. As a former CEO and a hugely successful businessman, Romney is UNIQUELY qualified to turn this country into a competitive place for companies to stay and do business. As an investor in US Banks and Securities as well as in Swiss banks and foreign currencies - Romney understands EXACTLY the reasoning behind this kind of investment - and is UNIQUELY prepared to make the US more competitive in that arena also.

Obama, on the other hand, wants us to hate the corporations, to demonize them, to punish them; he wants us to "go after" Wall Street because they're not "paying their fair share".

You cannot demonize the business sector of this country, turn the population against them, try to tax them more heavily so you can "spread the wealth"; you cannot over-regulate them and expect them to stay.

The government needs to either make this illegal (which would be a REAL bonehead move) or make this country more competitive and get off this negative populist rhetoric.

    • ANSWER:
      100% scam.

There is no job and no legit company called that name.

Any phone number that starts with +44-70 or anything similar is not based in the United Kingdom. It is from a UK based cell phone redirect service that can be answered by anyone anywhere in the world. It is a favorite service of scammers who want to pretend to be in the United Kingdom but are really half way around the world from there.

There is only a scammer trying to steal your hard-earned money.

The next email will be from another of the scammer's fake names and free email addresses pretending to be the "government visa official" or "travel agent" and will demand you pay, in cash, via Western Union or moneygram.

Western Union and moneygram do not verify anything on the form the sender fills out, not the name, not the street address, not the country, not even the gender of the receiver, it all means absolutely nothing. The clerk will not bother to check ID and will simply hand off your cash to whomever walks in the door with the MTCN# and question/answer. Neither company will tell the sender who picked up the cash, at what store location or even in what country your money walked out the door. Neither company has any kind of refund policy, money sent is money gone forever.

Now that you have responded to a scammer, you are on his 'potential sucker' list, he will try again to separate you from your cash. He will send you more emails from his other free email addresses using another of his fake names with all kinds of stories of great jobs, lottery winnings, millions in the bank and desperate, lonely, sexy singles. He will sell your email address to all his scamming buddies who will also send you dozens of fake emails all with the exact same goal, you sending them your cash via Western Union or moneygram.

Do you know how to check the header of a received email? If not, you could google for information. Being able to read the header to determine the geographic location an email originated from will help you weed out the most obvious scams and scammers. Then delete and block that scammer. Don't bother to tell him that you know he is a scammer, it isn't worth your effort. He has one job in life, convincing victims to send him their hard-earned cash.

Whenever suspicious or just plain curious, google everything, website addresses, names used, companies mentioned, phone numbers given, all email addresses, even partial sentences from the emails as you might be unpleasantly surprised at what you find already posted online. You can also post/ask here and every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find before taking a chance and losing money to a scammer.

6 "Rules to follow" to avoid most fake jobs:
      1) Job asks you to use your personal bank/paypal account and/or open a new one.
      2) Job asks you to print/mail/cash a check or money order.
      3) Job asks you to use Western Union or moneygram in any capacity.
      4) Job asks you to accept packages and re-ship them on to anyone.
      5) Job asks you to pay visas, travel fees via Western Union or moneygram.
      6) Job asks you to sign up for a credit reporting or identity verification site.

Avoiding all jobs that mention any of the above listed 'red flags' and you will miss nearly all fake jobs. Only scammers ask you to do any of the above. No. Exceptions. Ever. For any reason.

If you google "fraud visa job scam", "fake UK hotel job Western Union scam", "fake housekeeping job scam" or something similar, you will find hundreds of posts from victims and near-victims of this type of scam.

  20. QUESTION:
    do you trust your bank?
Jul 09, 2009 -- Bank fees on the rise again
Fees are on the rise again as banks try to make up for revenue they've lost to bad debt write-offs. In fact, three-quarters of bank revenue on supposedly free checking accounts now comes from overdraft fees. That's why it's called "fee checking" in industry lingo!

One of the most controversial practices among the giant banks concerns their overdraft systems. They won't allow you to opt out of the loop where they approve debit card transactions knowing you're overdrawn just to fee you.

Bank of America has now increased the maximum amount of its overdraft charges per day to 0. Don't adjust your computer screen that's 0, according to The Washington Post.

If you're in danger of running in the red with your account, then you need to rethink everyday spending. Go old-school -- live a cash-only lifestyle and swear off the debit card. You might also want to fire your giant bank and take your business to a smaller community bank or a credit union.

    bank fees
What has biten me is our checking account, 22 years old with same bank, same address, nothing has changed, and we had a problem, a payment done on line for 00 appeared not to post, so I did it again, I called the bank and told them to not honor both if both were presented for payment as only one should have, (same amount, same debtor also for over 4 years), well both got drafted out, and we were continuing as usual with our debit card, making purchases, even purchases for .00 and less, and every single one we were charged a .00 overdraft fee, and were not even aware of this. Well not until nearly 9 days later when pulled up at ATM, went to make 0 withdrawal and the receipt showed a -6. balance. I was like what? so I presented it again, thinking it was an error, same thing, and to really take an extra bite, each time I presented the card into the machine was a .00 fee, twice for the decline and the balance check. I went into our bank, and was told well we are just the small branch in this little town we cant make decisions to reverse any charges, I asked for the Corporate bank and was told that our branch manager would talk with them but she didn't think we would get any help because it was all computer generated. Well 3 days later and I went back in, and she told me, no the Corporate Bank said no help, all charges stand. Because we had the ,000 protection they continued to pay, but charged us the draft each and every time., over 00 in overdraft fees.

    Overdraft Changes
The first thing I would like to say is the majority of overdraft/insufficient fund fees come from the customer not keeping track of their own account. The customer should always know how much they have in their accounts. If you know you have don't spend and write a check for 0. That is common sense. The next thing is that a major bank I work for is making drastic changes to the overdraft process that will please many people. I'm unable to expand but I'm sure Clark will explain when he reads about the changes.

BoA Transaction Ordering to Maximize Fees
I've been bitten by this several times in the past few months. I normally keep pretty close track of what's spent and how much we have left, but sometimes mistakes happen.

I understand that. I accept responsibility for that.

What I do not understand is how they can justify re-ordering transactions to go from largest to smallest rather than chronological order. I've had reps tell me that it's "for my convenience," which is utter hogwash, in my opinion.

Typically, I have one transaction that should've gone into the red. Not with Bank of America - they re-order it so that I wind up with multiple fees, instead of just one.

I'm going to follow Clark's advice from the other night and go to my branch manager and ask him to stop this madness and refund the fees. Even if they do, I still plan on jumping to a credit union at my earliest opportunity.

    Bank of America fees
I am outraged that Bank of America is riping me and others off. One of my account was overdrawn by . I was assessed the OD fee on 8/5/09. So why did I get charged another OD fee on 8/11/09? I called into the bank and was told that since it was not brought up to par within the 5 days, I was charge an additional fee. I have other accounts in other banks and I have NEVER encounter any such nonsense. Bank of America makes sure that the consumer pays for their short falls.

    • ANSWER:
I despise banks with a passion. Banks are out to screw their customers with deceptive credit cards, fees for everything, bad quality loans, and faulty mortgages. Banks screw their shareholders by paying ridiculous compensation packages to their executives, who in turn take risky practices to drive their companies into the ground. Then these same banks run to the taxpayers to bail them out to the tune of countless billions of bailout money. And then these banks give the same customers 0.2% interest on their so called "Super Saver" accounts.

There are few corporations I hate as much as banks.

It will be a happy day when Citi Group, Bank of America, Countrywide, Chase, and all those other companies are allowed to die.

And Bank of America is EVIL. I shudder when I think about the billion we, the taxpayers, gifted BAC as bailout money. A pure case of government being in bed with the banks, their executives, and the lobbyists.
